AMERICAN EXPRESS FINANCIAL CORPORATION CAFM INTEGRATION
American Express Financial Corporation Facilities Management Department
Minneapolis, MN

The Corporate Real Estate Division (CRE) of American Express Financial Corporation is responsible for the management of over two million square feet of corporate office and support space housing almost four thousand employees in six buildings in Minneapolis. As the cost and complexity of maintaining this valuable asset increased, CRE determined that Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) software would improve their span of control and effectiveness in managing space.

Jordani Consulting Group was selected to help American Express analyze its requirements for a CAFM system. The requirements analysis led to the development of a Request for Proposal (RFP). The RFP was used to guide detailed performance and feature tests, providing the basis and justification for final system recommendations.

Since 1989, JCG has managed the integration of CAFM within CRE. With its computers directly connected to those at American Express, JCG provides daily system design and support services including software customization, training, systems configuration, and user support. JCG also helps orchestrate the way in which computers are used by other design consultants who provide services to American Express.

JCG began a major new software design and development phase in April 1994 to provide an enterprise wide CAFM system. The software design links American Express Financial Corporation's CAD system with databases maintained by other business units at American Express. By linking to data from Telecommunications, Workstation Services, and Human Resources, American Express can more effectively manage and account for utilization of corporate assets.
